Presenter: Dan Masters

Soldiers from the state of Ohio comprised more than a quarter of the Army of the Cumberland at the Battle of Stones River. Over the course of the four-day engagement, Buckeyes took part in some of the most hard-fought sectors of the field and played a critical role in securing the final victory for General William S. Rosecrans, also an Ohioan. Ohioans were among the first soldiers struck by the Confederate surprise attack on the Union right on the morning of December 31st and were among those who charged across Stones River on the evening of January 2nd to turn back Breckinridge's evening assault on the Union left. When the carnage ended on January 4, 1863, roughly a third of the 13,000 Union casualties were men from the Buckeye state. This workshop will explore those these men were and relate a few of their stories from the battle.

Online sales end two days prior to class due to supply needs for the instructors, please call the Museums (262-653-4140) to inquire if registrations are still available.
